How DJ Key Notation Works: Demystifying Key Mappings
The Open Key System is a standard coordinate indicator wheel based on the Circle of Fifths. It makes relative key relationships highly visible to DJs during performance sessions.
The Geometry of the Wheel
Rather than displaying key names (like C Major or A Minor), the wheel translates pitches into simple numbers from 1 to 12, matching the twelve hour marks on a clock.
