Euclidean Rhythm Math: Many cultural rhythms (for example: Brazilian Tresillo, Cuban Habanera, West African patterns) are mathematically equivalent to Euclidean divisions which maximize symmetry on a circular grid loop.
The Math of Euclidean Rhythms

Discovered in 2004 by computer scientist Godfried Toussaint, Euclidean rhythms apply Euclid's ancient division algorithm (specifically Bjorklund's algorithm) to distribute a set number of pulses ($K$) as evenly as possible across a set number of steps ($N$).
- Formulation $E(K, N)$: Denominated as $E$ followed by pulses and steps. For example, $E(5, 16)$ is a standard 16-step grid holding 5 evenly distributed beats.
- Offset Rotation: Shifting the pattern circularly. Rotating the grid changes the accent points, converting a standard loop into Syncopated grooves.
